To the Editor,
I am writing to express my strong support for Sarah Dunn Davis for Library Trustee. I've had the pleasure of collaborating with Sarah on several local issues, including MBTA Zoning and the public school budget.
Sarah is an incredible asset to the library because she is a true "doer"—she effectively tackles the necessary behind-the-scenes work to get any job done. Having already served one term in this role, she knows exactly what it entails. I have personally witnessed her deep understanding of local government and admired her ability to achieve results within that system. For instance, Sarah, along with a small group of parents, was instrumental in initiating free childcare for Town Meeting. This valuable service has enabled more young parents to participate, strengthening our town's democratic process.
As a parent herself, Sarah is deeply invested in our town's civic institutions. She understands that the decisions and work we undertake now will impact future generations.
Sarah is also a skilled connector. She recognizes the importance of bringing people together across diverse demographics to communicate clearly and effectively about important issues. When our town overwhelmingly passed the school budget at the recent Town Meeting, it was Sarah who spearheaded the effort to connect School Committee members with various community groups. This ensured broader understanding of the core issues and stakes involved. Her ability to unite people is more crucial than ever.
Currently, our middle/high school library lacks a full-time librarian, does not circulate books, and its research databases are underutilized by students. As a former social studies teacher, a participant in the school library focus group, and a hopeful future School Committee member, I see this as a significant problem. I am also keenly aware of the budget pressures facing our schools and town. I know Sarah shares this awareness from our direct work together on school budget communications. I am excited about the potential for our public library, with Sarah's leadership as Trustee, to collaborate with the school district to get our students access to the research materials and skills vital for learning.
We are fortunate that Sarah Dunn Davis is willing to serve an institution as important as our library. Her crucial skills and strong work ethic will benefit the entire town. The library needs her voice and energy now. I urge you to join me in supporting Sarah Dunn Davis for Library Trustee.
