Memorial Day: No Place for Politics

Posted

At last year's Memorial Day observances in Manchester, I saw several people wearing clothes and gear representing partisan political views. This is entirely inappropriate and out of place for such a somber occasion, and in fact disrespects the memory of servicemen and women who have fought and died in war. Yes, indeed, they did so for our freedoms, including freedom of speech, but these remembrances are not the time and place for politicking, of any stripe.

The only "themed" clothing most of us want to see on Memorial Day are uniforms of the military services and the American Legion. This is not a matter of anyone's right of free expression, but of courtesy and respect to all.
