A local musician this week will give locals a new way to appreciate his creativity when "Willie Alexander | Goya’s head found on Half Moon Beach" opens Friday, Oct. 11 at the Jane Deering Gallery in Gloucester.
A reception is planned from 5 to 7 p.m. on the exibit's opening day on Friday.
Willie Alexander, a Gloucester resident, is a singer and keyboardist whose legendary career reaches back to the 1960s. He's played with the Lost, the Bagatelle and the Grass Menagerie, before becoming a member of the Velvet Underground in 1971. After leaving the Velvet Underground, Alexander performed as a solo artist and with his Boom Boom Band, which still is active today.
"Willie is … musician, artist, inventor, poet, collector, archivist, seeker. And foremost, a humanist. His drawings, paintings, collages are vibrant portraits of spontaneous reactions to moments in life, all of which have significance. Enjoy the ongoing journey of this artist extraordinaire," wrote organizers of the exhibit.
"Willie Alexander | Goya’s head found on Half Moon Beach" continues through November 3.
