EES First Schoolwide Meeting with New Principal, Mrs. Kim Provost

The Essex Elementary School community has happily welcomed a new, permanent principal this school year, after two years with an interim principal.  Mrs. Kimberly Provost, comes to EES with a deep understanding of the MERSD community and culture across grade levels.   She began her tenure at MERSD as a founding lead teacher in the SAIL (Social & Academic Integrated Learning) Program at Manchester Memorial School initially, for several years.  Then moved on to become Dean of Students at the MERSD Middle School.  She also continues to serve as the District’s SEL (Social Emotional Learning) Coordinator across MERSD.

Last Tuesday, Principal Provost held her first schoolwide meeting at EES.  She began the meeting by asking students how they want to feel at school, responses included “happy”, “safe” and “respected”.   She then went on to celebrate the class with the highest participation rate at the recent EES “Happy As A Clam” Race.  Mrs. Russo’s Kindergarten class won the Golden Cup with 100 percent participation! Congrats to them!

Next, Mrs. Provost handed the mic over to MERSD Elementary Library Teacher, Ms. Samantha Silag who welcomed guests, Ms. April Wanner from Essex Burnham Library and Mrs. Heidi Jackson Dean, Manager of Brookline Bank’s Essex location.  They joined the meeting to celebrate EES “Summer Reading Rock Stars”.   Ms. Silag announced over 125 students in grades K-5 who read throughout the summer -- the most EES “Summer Reading Rock Stars” in the last five years!  Students who participated in summer reading programs at the Essex Burnham Public Library or through the school’s summer reading program were entered into a raffle for a new bike from Riverside Cycle.  The EES Summer Reading Program is a collaboration between EES, Brookline Bank and the Essex Burnham Public Library, and is designed to keep EES students reading during the lazy, hazy days of summer.  EES fifth-grader Nora Ward-Howe was the deserving winner of the bike raffle!  All EES “Summer Reading Rock Stars” will receive prizes during their Library class this week.
