To the Editor,
Although it is somewhat difficult to obtain an accurate picture of the number of municipalities either accepting or rejecting the State’s 3A Scheme (my term), Attorney Michael Walsh, using a variety of resources, came up with a “scorecard” on October 8th. I believe it to be reasonably accurate. Keeping in mind that these lists are very fluid and could change quickly in a day, he was able to generate the following.
Municipalities Delaying Deciding on 3A:
* Ashland
* Georgetown
* Hanover
* Shrewsbury
Municipalities Resisting 3A:
* Milton
* Wakefield
* Marblehead
* Littleton
* Holden
* Marshfield
* Hanson
* Norwell
* Rowley
* Middleborough
* Middleton
* North Reading
* Tewksbury
* Hanover
* Hopkinton
* Billerica
* Foxborough
* Freetown
* Seekonk
* Wilmington
* Wrentham
* Hamilton
Municipalities Totally Accepting 3A And Receiving Approval From The State (3)
* Salem
* Lexington
* Arlington
Based on these numbers, you just have to draw the conclusion that many municipalities have strong enough reasons to stand up to the State and its 3A Initiative. Despite the intense State pressure, I believe municipalities probably decided to stand up for their residents, who they represent, and honor their civic responsibility. If I lived in one of these resisting communities, I definitely would have more confidence that my local representatives are looking out for its residents and their well being.
Does your municipality have your back? You may want to find out quickly before they make a decision detrimental to your town and your quality of life.
Thank you.
