A beautiful sunny day at Tuck’s Point welcomed members of the Elderly Brethren for their annual meeting, meal and fellowship. The “brothers” started to gather prior to 11 a.m. and enjoyed the hors d’oeuvres and punch bowls. Just prior to noon the traditional photo was taken on the steps of the chowder house and then the members settled in for a lunch consisting of salad, fish and clam chowder, lobster rolls, chips and apple pie with cheddar cheese.
During the business meeting, the registration report was given showing 56 members present. Chris Glass Jr. was the youngest new member in his 49th year. The three most senior members were Harry Parsons, age 90, Tony Bullock, age 93 and Russ Aldrich, age 98. Russ was awarded the Elder Brethren Cane as the most senior member present.
The Slade Eaton Trophy was awarded for the 33rd time to an individual who has given service to the Elder Brethren as well as outstanding service to others. The trophy was awarded to former Elder Brethren Secretary, Story High School Class of 1956 graduate and athlete and long-time volunteer William “Jessie” James.
Following the election of officers and members of the executive board, Rus Brown introduced the guest speaker, Essex County District Attorney Paul Tucker. During a long career in public service, he has served as a police officer in Nashua, NH, a police officer and then senior officer and Chief of Police in Salem, MA, a state representative for four terms and then was elected district attorney less than two years ago. Paul is looked at as an innovative DA, always working on new ways to build healthy communities to prevent crime. The district attorney talked about building rapport with people and working to get to know them as a way to have people being part of the team/community.
Following the great talk, the meeting was adjourned until next year’s picnic, September 2025.
