To the Editor,
As most of you know, we live in a Constitutional Republic. We elect representatives that, in theory, represent us and act on our behalf. They are not suppose to theoretically represent the Federal Government or State Government or even the local town or city government. They should actually represent us, the citizens that put them in office.
Our Representatives are expected to be our voice in government and make every effort to meet our expectations and not any other entity or group. That is why I just don’t understand the contrary actions of Dru (Andrew) Tarr, our current State Representative. For instance, 72% of the people overwhelmingly voted for an audit of the Massachusetts State Legislature’s budget. Despite this decisive demand by the people, Dru decided to totally disregard the public’s wishes and voted against the audit. As you are probably aware, there have been other examples of his blatant dismissing of the public’s wishes.
In another very recent example, Dru Tarr and all his Ways and Means Committee colleagues voted to strip out Governor Healey’s proposal to suspend the 24 cent per gallon gas tax. This was in the supplemental budget proposed by the Governor. It was Governor Healey who said, “This will not cause us any fiscal harm and it also will not jeopardize any funding that is going towards transportation or important infrastructure projects.” I believe we all agree that the public is currently hurting economically and the overwhelmingly majority would welcome this tax elimination. Once again, Dru obviously voted against what the majority of the people would want. Apparently Dru Tarr has exhibited a habitual pattern of disregarding the people who elected him in favor of the Democratic bosses in the House. He will vote party line even if it hurts his constituents.
However, you have a choice this November 3rd election. You can put up with Dru Tarr’s ignoring the wishes of the citizens he represents or you could elect Christina Delisio, a person who already is listening to the residents of Cape Ann and trying to help. Without doubt, Christina is for the audit, has been fighting for it all along, and would fight to make it happen when elected. She also would never pass up a good opportunity to improve the economic health of the residents of Cape Ann.
In addition, I also wanted to bring up a misconception. Bruce Tarr has repeatedly stated that he is not related to Dru Tarr and Dru Tarr stated he was not related to Bruce as well. Dru stated this in the Gloucester Daily Times.
In any case, please do yourself a favor and vote for Christina Delisio, a Representative that will actually listen to you and actually represent you! We need her!
