Timothy Wogan

Timothy Wogan, born November 10, 1947 in Beverly, MA and formerly of this town, passed away peacefully in hospice care on December 10 at the age of 77 surrounded by love.  Tim was the son of the late Richard, Thomas Wogan and Helen Beaton Wogan, both of Manchester.

Tim lived his first 14 years in Manchester.  The family moved to Gloucester where Tim played tackle on the Gloucester high school football team, the Fisherman.  He also ran track.  A proud graduate of Gloucester High School’s Class of 1965, Tim continued his education at Arizona Western College, where he was co-captain of their football team.  After Arizona western, he transferred to the university of Massachusetts Amherst earning his degree in 1971.

Tim’s athletic prowess continued after his college years.  He was an avid bicyclis,t both road and off-road.  He enjoyed indoor rowing and competed in several rowing competitions.

His professional life was as diverse as it was adventuresome.  He was a partner with his father at the Wogan Lawn Service, and he captained the lobster boat, The BooJigg.

He later enjoyed a very successful career as a salesman for Mettler Toledo.

Tim called New Hampshire home for many years.  Upon retirement, he returned to the New England coast he loved so well and eventually moved back to Manchester.  He was a traveler, an ocean enthusiast, and lover of life.  He enjoyed “spinning the beach” and was legendary for his body surfing at Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester.

He possessed a vibrant spirit and love for the sea.

Tim leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion to his family.

He is survived by his two daughters Courtney and her husband, Justin Van Etten of Holderness, New Hampshire, along with their children, Guilla and Wogan; and Hilary and her husband Bryan Ness of Riverside, California along with their children Mylie and Joshua.

He is survived by his sister Suzanne and her husband Lewis Lattanzi of Manchester along with their daughters Kara Eagan of Gloucester and Nicole Dickerson of Manchester, as well as his great-grand nieces, Sophia, Ava, and Mia.  And he is survived by his brother Denis of Easthampton, MA.

Tim’s ex-wife and dear friend, Jiggs (Anstis Wogan), lovingly cared for him through his final days.

Tim’s friendships were a cornerstone of his life, bringing him endless joy and many unforgettable adventures.  He shared countless wonderful times with his close friends and leaves behind many friends, including Dave Tomeo, Rich Brittingham, Mike Scarpone, and Rob Orlando.  He was predeceased by his longtime friends Paul Riley and Bob Rooney.

Tim will be remembered for his warmth, humor and deep connection to family and friends.  He lived life fully and inspired those around him to do the same.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date where family and friends can gather to honor his memory.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of your choice in his memory.
