Eight of the younger members of the Manchester Essex Regional High School indoor track team were able to make a statement with their performances during the MSTCA Freshman Sophomore State Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center on January 5.
“Just qualifying for this elite event is an exceptional accomplishment, but the Freshman / Sophomore team took it even further, with six personal records and three athletes finishing in the top 20 in the state,” says ME indoor track coach Brian Davis.
In the 55M, freshman Tess Taylor finished 19th with a PR of 8.03, while sophomore Noah Cohen finished 20th with a personal best time of 7.15. Freshmen Adare Foster (PR of 40.94) and Alex Rizzico (39.01, 15th overall) performed well in the 300M, with Rizzico recording a PR of 16-7.50 in the long jump as well.
Sophomore Turner Valeo (1:41.22) and freshman Nico Catanzaro (PR of 1:45.38) turned in strong performances in the 600M, sophomore Matt Ala and freshman Gus Hall (PR of 5:06.33) also did well in the 1000M and Mile, respectively.
