It was both a fitting ending and a glimpse of a promising future.

The athletes from the Manchester Essex boys and girls indoor track teams travelled to the Reggie Lewis Center on February 16 to take part in the MIAA 2025 Division 5 Indoor Track Championships, giving a young team crucial experience in a largescale meet, while also giving them one last opportunity this winter to show what they could do.  The Hornets did not disappoint.

“A great conclusion to the season with some standout career performances and true grit from all competitors,” explains Manchester Essex indoor track coach Brian Davis.

Henry Stevens finished 15th out of 38 in the 2-Mile with a time of 10:35.38, Adelaide Hall was 12th of 27 in the Mile (5:43.29) and Melina Binieris was 10th of 24 in the 1000M (3:23.23), all personal bests for the trio.

“The big highlight was Henry Stevens running 10:35.38 -- an all-time PR both indoor and outdoor -- 7 seconds faster than his CAL Champs time, finishing off his senior year with a statement race,” says Brian Davis.

Other promising performances included Eleanor Hall, Anna Sergi and Gus Hall in the Mile, Cia Donohoe in the 1000M and the relay team of Binieris, Donohoe, Claire Yukins and Melina Binieris (Yukins ran a PR in the opening leg of the relay). running a PR in her opening leg.

“We qualified nine athletes over 16 events and one relay for this meet,” says Davis.  “Of those, three were seventh graders, two were eighth graders and one was a freshman.  With the team culture set by the seniors and upperclassmen, the foundation and future are very strong for this team.”
