Margaret K. (Merwin) Riemersma, 94, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 8, 2024, at The Willows of Worcester. She was born and raised in Fair Lawn, New Jersey, where she met her husband, the love of her life in Jr. high, Donald Riemersma whom predeceased her in October of 1991. Margaret was the daughter of John and Marjorie (Prophet) Merwin. She lived for many decades in Manchester-by-the-Sea where they raised their family, and more recently Magnolia before moving to Worcester in 2022.
Margaret graduated from Smith College in Northampton with a bachelor's degree in English. She taught ballet until the ripe age of 86 at the Robin Adair Studio of Dance in Manchester-by-the-Sea.
Margaret cherished time with her family on Martha's Vineyard, gardening, and feeding her daughters miniature donkeys, rescue horses and German Shepard Winston. She enjoyed staying active with Zumba, weight classes and daily walks. Remarkably, she continued to walk a mile a day well into her 90s with her friends Mary and Elaine.
She is survived by her daughter, Julie Brewer and her husband, David, of Martha's Vineyard, with 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; her son, Allen Riemersma, and his wife, Sharon, with 4 grandchildren of Magnolia, MA. She is predeceased by her close friend of 50+ years and cohort in dance, Miss Robin Adair (Mandile).
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, August 22, at Grove Cemetery in Holden. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your local MSPCA.
