Karen Clark and Hilary Hall will represent Manchester this spring as they race as part of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge team in the 130th Boston Marathon, scheduled for April 20.
Clark and Hall are among more than 500 runners participating in the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge, the largest and longest-running charity team associated with the Boston Marathon. The team is working to raise more than $8.75 million this year to support cancer research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
One hundred percent of funds raised through the marathon challenge benefit Dana-Farber’s Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research, which supports early-stage scientific studies. Since 1990, the program has received more than $140 million through the marathon initiative.
Participants on the Dana-Farber team include cancer survivors, patients and supporters running in honor of loved ones. Runners who receive invitational entries through Dana-Farber commit to raising at least $12,000, while those who secure their own race entry commit to raising at least $4,000.
Dana-Farber was among the first charities recognized by the Boston Athletic Association, which organizes the marathon. Team members receive fundraising support, organized training runs and post-race accommodations.
The Boston Marathon route runs from Hopkinton to Boston and is traditionally held on Patriots’ Day. The 2026 race marks the 37th year of the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge.
