John Everett Glovsky, aged 81, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2025, surrounded by family and friends. Born to C. Henry and Natalie Glovsky in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on June 23, 1943, John lived much of his life in Beverly, a community to which he devoted himself tirelessly. John attended Beverly High School and graduated with distinction from Dartmouth College, class of 1965, majoring in Art History. He received his law degree from Boston College Law School in 1969.
John met his lifelong soulmate, Andrea Poolner Glovsky, in the summer of 1964 at Fisherman’s Beach. They married in 1966 and enjoyed 58 years of devotion to one another. Family was most important to John, a devoted father to his two children, Alexander and Gillian, as well as his grandchildren, Nicholas, William, Cordelia, and Charlotte.
Upon graduating from law school, John was honored to join the legacy of his grandfather, Abraham, his father, Henry, and his uncle, Bertram, in the family law firm, Glovsky & Glovsky, alongside his brother, Mark. John was the epitome of hard work and dedication. A thoughtful listener and problem solver, as an attorney, he was singularly focused on his clients’ needs.
John particularly admired his grandfather’s devotion to public service and spent much time engaged in those efforts. A respected community leader, he was actively engaged in dozens of not-for-profit organizations in and around the North Shore. He was specifically proud to serve as a leader and board member for Project Rap, as President and Chairman of the North Shore chapter of the United Way, as a Rotarian (Paul Harris Fellow) for over 50 years, as a Trustee of Shore Country Day School, and most recently for his work with Old Farm Rockport, a home for brain injured adults. He also served as a member of the Board of Beverly Cooperative Bank for over 25 years and in various capacities on the Board of Governors of Essex County Club, for which he was awarded the Essex Jacket. John’s legacy of service, humility, and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew him.
When not at the office, John could be found on the golf course, traveling with Andrea, sailing with friends, doing his New York Times crossword puzzles, visiting great works of art, or walking his many pups on the beach in the early mornings - rain, snow, or shine. His insatiable dry wit and the twinkle in his eye will always make us smile.
John is survived by his wife of 58 years, Andrea; his brother, Mark (Livia); his children, Alex (Cheryl) and Gillian (Jeff); and his four grandchildren, William, Nicholas, Cordelia, and Charlotte. He was preceded in death by his parents, C. Henry and Natalie Glovsky, and his brother, Alan.
A celebration of life for John will be at Essex County Club, 153 School St. Manchester-by-the-Sea on July 21, (time to be determined). Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Contributions may be made in John’s memory to Old Farm Rockport (Supportive Living Inc.) 9 Oakland St., Lexington, MA 02420 or Care Dimensions 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
