Fact Checking Freedom to Move Assertions in Letter to The Cricket

Posted

To the Editor,

I read the letter from Susan Wadia-Els (The Cricket, 20 March 2026) concerning the proposed Freedom to Move Act and her claim that it "would limit the number of miles a state-licensed, gas-powered car is allowed to drive each year" and that "Massachusetts would somehow monitor how many miles my car is driven."

So, I read the Act itself, and I did not see anything about this sort of limitation or monitoring.

Susan also implies that Delisio would be against this Act, so we should vote for Christina Delisio.  If I have misread the Act, I would certainly oppose it, but the idea that the government would make such a proposal strikes me as nuts.

Does The Cricket do any fact-checking of claims like this one?  Is her presentation of the Act accurate, and has Delisio indicated that she would vote against it for the reason Susan cites?  Should we assume that claims like these are or are not checked for factuality?
