Carolyn J. Cassidy, formerly of Ipswich, MA, passed away Friday, September 27, 2024, at the Brooksby Village Retirement Community. Daughter of the late Thomas and Janet (Rae) Cassidy, Carolyn was born in Everett on February 6th, 1942. She attended and graduated from Everett High School in 1959 and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Gordon College. Carolyn grew up the proud daughter of Irish immigrants. She was the first in her family to graduate college.
A life-long educator, Carolyn spent a fulfilling career teaching first grade for 41 years, mainly in Essex, MA. Outside the classroom, Carolyn was a champion for her fellow teachers. As an active member of the teacher’s union in her district in Massachusetts, she fought for better conditions and fair treatment for all educators. She Loved the Lord and was a devoted member of First Church in Hamilton, where she has served in many capacities. She especially enjoyed Bible study and serving on the Greeting team at worship services. Carolyn was known for her sense of humor and quick wit. She rarely knew a stranger and made many friends over her long life. Carolyn had a love for life that let her embrace all it had to offer. She had traveled all over Europe as a young woman and took many cruises with her friends during her retirement. She loved seeing new places and meeting new people.
Carolyn is predeceased by her parents and her one sister, Sara Ann. She is survived by her nephew Robert (Jill) Hartsell of NC, her niece Elizabeth of Saugus, MA, niece Janay and nephew James, both of NC.
Carolyn’s funeral service will be held on Saturday October 5, 2024 at 1PM at the First Church of Hamilton, 630 Bay Rd., Hamilton, MA. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Interment will take place prior to the funeral at 11AM at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett, MA.
