Heading into the Intertown Twilight League playoffs, the Manchester Essex Mariners have secured the league’s best regular season record despite a 5-1 loss Tuesday night to rival Hamilton.

Five Seconds at the Finish

The 59th running of the S.S. Crocker Memorial Race took place on a sunny Saturday with light winds and beautiful conditions.  It was a day for both casual crews and young families learning to race.

For the 73rd running of the Memorial Patton Bowl this past Sunday, the forecast seemed ideal, with our weather apps predicting moderate winds from the southeast.

STATE CHAMPS!

Literally and metaphorically, the heat was on Ellen Gilson.  As the thermometer reached close to 90 degrees at the du Pont Tennis Courts at MIT, the phenomenal freshman came up clutch once again for the Manchester Essex girls tennis team in the biggest match of the year, scoring the deciding point in the MIAA Div. 4 State Championship against arch-nemesis Hamilton-Wenham.

The Hornet seniors made a statement with their play in 2026. In total, there were 13 seniors on the Manchester Essex boys lacrosse team that went 17-3, won three tournament games and made it to the MIAA Div. 4 Final Four in 2026.  They were instrumental in making up a good portion of the roster, and for helping the team achieve quite a bit over the course of the spring season.

Not bad for the first time out. In her first season as head coach of the Manchester Essex girls lacrosse team, GG Huet led her team to 14 total wins and the MIAA Div. 4 Final Four.

More than 50 years ago, a group of sailing enthusiasts set out to create a place where anyone – regardless of their skill level – could experience the joys of sailing.  Their efforts led to what is now Manchester Sailing Association—“MSA”—an industry-leading nonprofit and a fixture in the Manchester community.

A quartet of Manchester Essex spring sports teams have made it to the semi-finals of the MIAA Div. 4 tournament, and each took their shot at earning the trip to the State Championship game at the start of the week.

The Manchester Essex baseball team stayed with the second seed in Div. 4 for most of their Sweet 16 matchup but ultimately couldn’t break through to pull off a win.

The Manchester Essex softball team was so close to victory that they could almost taste it. Almost.

The MIAA Div. 4 has begun in earnest, and all six Manchester Essex spring sports squads have looked pretty good in the early going, with five advancing to the Sweet 16 of their respective tournaments (and one going one step further).

We travelled to Boston on Monday to compete in the Zimba Mass Bay League Fleet Championship, racing in ideal, sunny conditions with a fairly consistent breeze.

2026 Spring Postseason Primer

The final leg of the final sports season of the 2025-26 school year begins this week when Manchester Essex tennis, lacrosse, baseball and softball teams get their first taste of the MIAA Div. 4 tournament.

Going into our final team race of the season last week, while ranked at the top of B-Division North, we met Pingree, who we suspected were going to be tough competition.

The time is now for the Manchester Essex boys lacrosse team. In all honesty, the time has been “now” for almost the entire spring season for the team.

With just two matches left in the regular season, it’s about time to look ahead and wonder how it will end for the Manchester Essex girls tennis team.

The Hornets raced Landmark last Wednesday in a cold and fitful northerly breeze that offered up some dramatic wind shifts, causing some confusion for the sailors, but many anxious moments for the coaches.

As good as they have played so far this season, Manchester Essex softball coach Frank Sarro is confident that his team is capable of even more.

The Manchester Essex girls lacrosse team has survived a daunting schedule while playing in the challenging Cape Ann League Baker Division, something that could pay dividends once the postseason begins.

There is hope that a 2-1 win over Amesbury on May 2 and a 13-1 in over Rockport on April 29 mark a return to early-season form for the Hornets, who started off the season with a bang, going 3-1 and scoring 27 total runs in the first four game.
