There is a lot set to happen with the Council on Aging (COA) in the coming weeks.  Check them out here, and for on any of these great trips or to reserve your seat on the van, please call 978-526-7500.

Castle Island and Sullivan’s | On Wednesday, September 18, it’s Castle Island and lunch at Sullivan’s.  Castle Island located in South Boston houses Fort Independence a five-bastioned, granite fort built between 1834 and 1851.  Castle Island also has beautiful Harbor Loop which is a 2.2-mile loop along the ocean.  Best of all Castle Island has Sullivan’s where we’ll stop for their popular hot dogs, seafood or a delicious ice cream cone.  The van will start picking up seniors at 10:30 a.m.  Return expected around 2 p.m.

My ‘o Me.  It’s China Jade and Dollar Tree |  On Friday, September 20, the COA is offering a trip to The China Jade Restaurant in Beverly.  Come and enjoy a delicious lunch of Asian cuisine.  After lunch head over to Dollar Tree to do a little shopping.  The van will start picking up seniors around 11 a.m.  Return is expected by 1:30 p.m.  For further info and van reservations, please call the COA.

Lobster Rolls ‘n Chicken Salad Lunch! | It’s a post-Labor Day Lobster Roll or Chicken Salad Roll Lunch that will be hosted by the COA on Tuesday, September 24.  Catered by Jeff’s Variety of Gloucester enjoy a delicious lobster roll or chicken salad roll, potato chips and cookie. You’ll be able to pick your lunch up at the COA office around 12:15 p.m. or we can deliver it to you.  The cost of this luncheon is $14 for the lobster roll (now THAT’S a great deal), $6 for chicken salad, per person, and open to the first 50 who sign up. Drop payment off or mail a check to the COA, 10 Central Street, Manchester, MA 01944.  Call the COA with questions or to register.

Another Mystery Ride | On Wednesday, September 25, the COA van will take our monthly mystery ride.  The van driver heads for an undisclosed establishment somewhere on the North Shore; it could be ice cream, pastries, sandwiches or all of the above and only the van driver knows!  A little hint will be given, so all can be prepared!   Pick-up will begin at 12 noon and return will be by 2 p.m. 

Merrimack Valley Quilt Show | On Friday, September 27, the COA is scheduled to go to The Merrimack Valley Quilt Guild Annual Quilt Show in Newburyport.  This is a quilt show with something for everyone including vendors, food, penny raffle, silent auction, demonstrations, boutique and over 150 quilts on display.  The van will start picking up seniors at 10 a.m.  Return is expected around 2 p.m. Admission is $10 at the door.  More info at the COA office.

Stonewall Kitchen |  On Wednesday, October 2, the COA is headed north to and the epic home of the Stonewall Kitchen Store and Café in York, Maine.  Stonewall Kitchen is a leader and award-winning producer of specialty food products. The company’s preserves, condiments, mustards, relishes, baking mixes, pancake and waffle mixes and many more items are a favorite of foodies all over.  At Stonewall Kitchen, visit the Café for a light lunch or cup of coffee and then you can go to the Viewing Gallery Window to watch their operation production line and continue into the store where you’ll have plenty of time for shopping.  The van will start picking up seniors around 10:15 a.m. and return home around 2 p.m. Lunch is on your own.  For further info call the COA office.

Cider Hill Farm | On Friday, October 4, it’s another trip up north, but not so far up when the COA van heads to Cider Hill Farm in Amesbury.  It’s the perfect time of year for this trip.  Named one of the best farms in the world, Cider Hill Farm is a scenic 145-acre, family farm known for a wide selection of fruit, flowers, farmhouse gifts and apple cider donuts.  For added fun there is a barnyard to visit.  Van pick up starts at 10 a.m., with a return around 1:30 p.m.  Call the COA for more information.
