Remembering the First Atomic Bomb Dropped, on Hiroshima, Japan

As I write this, today (Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024), 79 years ago, at 8:15 a.m. Japan time, which would have been 7:15 p.m., Monday in the United States, the first atomic bomb was dropped on Hiroshima, Japan.  Three days later, another atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, Japan, followed by Japan’s unconditional surrender on 15 August 1945.

The heartwarming and moving celebration marking the 80th anniversary of the D Day invasion, begs the question of what is being planned for the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, May 2025, and in the Pacific in August 2025. No doubt there are plans afoot, but sadly the number of people who were there at the time is rapidly dwindling.
