43 Reasons to Go Blue in November, and Counting

Posted

To the Editor (and readers),

In the aftermath of the Biden-Trump debate I was experiencing quite a bit of anxiety. The only thing I was certain about was the need to defeat Donald Trump.
I decided I would write a list of all my reasons, one each weekday, on Facebook. That was July 3 and there was much speculation whether Biden would persist or quit, so I just said “Vote Blue” at the end of each post. At that point I thought I’d have roughly 90 weekdays until the election, so I labeled the posts, “My 90 Reasons to Defeat Trump and Vote Blue."
I shortly realized that the Facebook format made brevity impossible and it was awkward to list references so that any reader could see where I came up with various bits of information. So, I also posted the same “Reason” on a website (blog). There, I could expand with additional information, add videos in some cases, and list all of the sources I used. This also added to the amount of time spent on each reason from one to two hours to sometimes more than a day.
Then came Biden’s decision to quit, his endorsement of Kamala Harris, her hurried and effective cementing of delegate support, followed by the joyful Democratic Party Convention. I changed the tagline to “Defeat Trump and Vote Harris/Walz.”
But getting five articles written each week was way too optimistic. It’s not that there would be any difficulty writing hundreds of reasons to defeat Trump, given the time, but I have accepted my own limitations.
So far, I have written 43 “Reasons.”
I guess it will be a bit more than 50 by the time I quit on November 5.
